History and tradition

Moringa has a long history in Ayurvedic tradition, and its leaves, pods, seeds and flowers have all been used in cooking and herbal preparations.

It is often called the "drumstick tree" because of its long, slender seed pods, which are a popular vegetable in South Indian cooking, particularly in curries and sambar.

Its nickname, the "miracle tree", reflects how many parts of the plant have traditionally been put to use.
